How do I copy dashboards from a template project?

Build your standard dashboards once on a project template, then copy the ones you need into each new project with Add Dashboards in Project Setup. The copies show the new project's own numbers, never the template's.

1. Build the dashboards on the template

  1. Open the project template and click Dashboard in its left menu (1).
  2. Click Create Dashboard (the + in the dashboard toolbar), give it a name and a short description, and add charts with + Add Chart, as on a project (Portfolio and Project Dashboards in Bluerithm).

A template starts with no dashboards: it never gets the automatic Project Overview dashboard, so everything listed there was built on purpose. On the template itself the charts show 0 or "No progress data available", because a template has no project work to count; the numbers appear once a copy is on a project. To build or change a template's dashboards you need to be a member of the template. Already built one on a project? Open it and use Copy to Another Project to put it on the template (How do I copy a dashboard to another project?).

2. Copy them into a project

  1. Open the project, click Project Setup in the left menu, then Add Dashboards.
  2. Choose the template in Select a template project (1). Its dashboards show on the left with their description and number of charts, and the project's dashboards on the right (2).
  3. Tick the dashboards you want (3) and click COPY INTO PROJECT (4).

Each copy keeps its name, charts, layout and chart settings, and is added beside the project's own Project Overview dashboard; a copy is never made the default. Charts fill in as the project's numbers are calculated, so some show as pending for a short while.

What isn't copied

  • Folder filters, since folders belong to one project, and any chart value tied to a piece of the source project's equipment. Bluerithm lists each one it left out.
  • The dashboard's shared links and logo.

Good to know

  • Copying the same dashboard twice gives the project two copies. The list on the right shows what the project already has.
  • Add Dashboards shows only when your account has project dashboards.
